Senior MPs will meet in Parliament for a rare Saturday sitting this weekend to swear allegiance to the new King.
Both Houses will meet from midday on Friday to allow for MPs and Peers to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II following her death. Prime Minister Liz Truss will lead Friday's tributes, with Parliament due to sit until at least 10pm.
That will be followed the next day by a rare Saturday meeting in The Houses of Parliament at 2pm, so senior MPs can take an oath of allegiance to King Charles III, who will be formally proclaimed king at an Accession Council meeting in St James Palace on Saturday, before Parliament convenes in the afternoon. Usually, Parliament only sits on weekdays.
