MPs recommend BBC charter renewal is scrapped and licence fee extended beyond TV

Dame Caroline Dinenage said the BBC has approached a ‘pivotal moment’ (Dominic Lipinski/PA) - (PA Archive)

The Digital, Culture, Media And Sport Committee (DCMS) has recommended that the BBC extends the licence fee to cover services other than TV and that the charter review is scrapped and made permanent.

The DCMS recommendations come ahead of the Government finalising its proposals for the next BBC royal charter later this year, which will set out how the corporation will be governed, regulated and funded from 2028 onwards.
