Mozambique welcomes $6 billion electricity project from World Bank backing

For Hermínio Guambe, a barber in a small village outside Mozambique’s capital, electricity has been a game-changer. His tiny, unpowered barbershop now boasts hair dryers, symbolising the transformation.

The wider community has also benefited. The village pharmacy can now stock vital medicines requiring refrigeration, and increased trading and transport have led to new job opportunities.
