Mowgli on Water Street confirms it's temporarily closing

Mowgli, the popular Indian chain restaurant on Water Street, is temporarily closing at the end of this week for a "little revamp".

The smash hit brand first launched in Liverpool in 2014, capturing the hearts of food lovers across the city and beyond. Founder Nisha Katona was keen to offer customers an authentic Indian food experience, with dishes inspired by "how Indians eat at home and on their streets".

Nisha left her 20 year career as a full time barrister in order to create and focus on Mowgli Liverpool - a bold move that paid off, with the Indian chain now operating several sites across England. There's two Liverpool venues, as well as restaurants in Manchester, Leeds, Oxford, Birmingham and more.

Now, its flagship Water Street site will be temporarily closing down for a "little revamp". The popular restaurant differs from its Bold Street sister venue as it doesn't have Mowgli's "iconic" rope swings or fairy lights.

An announcement on the brand's Facebook page reads: "Water street Mowgli will shut for a little refurb 15-20 January! Rope swings, trees, jars full of amber twinkle and the fairy lights of an Indian night market are all the iconic elements of Mowgli's atmosphere.

"Water Street in Liverpool was the third Mowgli I built and still building her from my family savings, I just couldn't afford much back then. It seems so wrong that such a flagship Mowgli doesn't have our iconic swings. That's why we are taking 5 days to give her a little revamp and I hope you like it. The engineers are in and measuring. It's all happening".

Last week, its beloved Bold Street restaurant temporarily closed, with a handwritten sign on the glass door to the venue telling passersby: "Due to unforeseen circumstances we are closed until further notice".

A Mowgli spokesperson confirmed the temporary closure was due to the property above suffering several burst pipes, which caused "some disruption". Repairs were quickly underway, with the restaurant able to reopen that evening.

Mowgli Water Street will close this Sunday, January 15 until Friday, January 20. Mowgli's two Liverpool venues can be found at 3 Water Street, Liverpool, L2 0RD, and 69 Bold Street, Liverpool, L1 4EZ.
