LFC manager Jurgen Klopp could be made a 'Citizen of Honour' of Liverpool in a special council meeting.
The council's main opposition group, the Liberal Democrats, have called for an extraordinary meeting of the city council to be held where the special honour would be bestowed upon the Reds boss. The Citizen of Honour title is given to individuals who have devoted their time and made significant, exceptional or unique contributions to enriching the image of Liverpool and its citizens.
Klopp will lead out his players in Paris this weekend, hoping to secure a Champions League trophy win over Real Madrid after a season that has already seen the team land the Carabao and FA Cups. Klopp has proved a hugely popular figure with Liverpool fans since his arrival at Anfield in 2015.

Liberal Democrat leader Richard Kemp, calling for the special meeting, said: "The fact that the Lib Dem squad of 11 councillors is unanimously putting this motion forward when it consists of Liverpool supporters, an Everton season ticket holder, people who have little interest in the game and, dare we say, a Manchester United season ticket holder, shows that the influence of Jurgen Klopp is something that is recognised by all citizens of our City.
"We cannot underestimate the importance of LFC in the promotion of our City. A Premier League football club brings immense benefits to an area which is why we are pleased that Everton is also staying in the Premier League. The last few years have been hard for Liverpool with appalling publicity caused to the City by its own Council. This has been considerably evened up by the success, discipline and sporting behaviour of Liverpool F.C."
He added: "As an individual Jurgen comes over as a first-class Leader who is on top of his field and able to speak confidently, passionately but fairly about the job he does. That reflects well on our City as a whole. In fact Jurgen Klopp has been so successful a leader that we might have nominated him for the position of Elected Mayor if we hadn’t been in the process of abolishing it."
The official motion, put to the council states: "Council recognises that Jurgen Klopp has created within Liverpool Football Club a team which is one of the most, if not the most, effective football teams in the world. It recognises that the success of the team on the field has been on huge help to our city in difficult times by improving the image of the city, morale and economy of the city."
Previous recipients of the Liverpool Citizen of Honour award include Peggy O'Brien who founded The Lily breast cancer support charity and passed away in 2016 and Carl Bartels who designed the Liver Bird. The group will now await Liverpool Council's response to the request.
