A COUNCILLOR has moved to have Port Stephens mayor Ryan Palmer taken off the Newcastle Airport board after a heated debate revealed he gains a personal tax benefit from the $50,000 fee he is paid.

The money has historically been paid into the Mayoral Fund, used to help support community programs and initiatives in the region that don't meet the criteria for other grant initiatives.
