After launching last month, Mouse: P.I. For Hire has made waves online as a charming little Cuphead-esque boomer shooter reminiscent of old cartoons – and, apparently, it's performed quite well financially, too.
In case you missed it, Mouse: P.I. For Hire landed a "Very Positive" rating on Steam, drawing fans in with its unique 1930s animation-adjacent visuals and action-packed boomer shooter gameplay.
A new financial report from publisher PlaySide Studios further solidifies its good reputation thus far, highlighting how the FPS has gone on to sell a whopping 730,000 units in total across all platforms since its big April 16 launch.
In total, these have added up to about $21.4 million. The report from PlaySide Studios also outlines how Mouse: P.I. For Hire has recouped all of its costs, adding that "continued strong sales performance is expected to support meaningful near-term cash inflows."
It wasn't exactly on the forecast, however, after a delay and the like, but the game's solid success has translated over neatly from its pre-release wishlists. What's more, PlaySide Studios has updated its forecast for its expected FY26 revenue as a result, now anticipating a greater result.
"The upgrade primarily reflects stronger-than-expected unit sales and ongoing wishlist conversion of Mouse: P.I. For Hire across PC and console platforms, and has been achieved despite the delayed launch of the title and the absence of major external project wins during the year to date," as PlaySide Studios writes.
It seems the shooter outdid itself and has nicely exceeded expectations set prior to its release last month.
The publisher's CEO, Benn Skender, adds, "The continued performance of MOUSE: P.I. For Hire has been really pleasing and reflects the strength of the IP, the quality and persistence of effort from all teams, and the depth of player and social engagement we are seeing across every platform."
It's always good to see a gem like this perform well, if you ask me, and I'd argue I'm not the only one who thinks so. With a 94% positive review score on Steam, it appears lots of folks are pleased with Mouse: P.I. For Hire, after all. Amid all of the new games of 2026 thus far, it's certainly managed to make its mark.
