Male prisoners in Mountjoy have the lowest out-of-cell time in the country, according to The Irish Penal Reform Trust.
The group published their 2021 report today which shows that Irish prisoners spend an average of less than six hours outside of their cells everyday.
Mountjoy's male prisoners had the least amount of time away from their cells, averaging just 4.5 hours per day.
Women in Mountjoy averaged five hours of out-of-cell time while Cloverhill prisoners averaged 5.4 hours.
Prisoners in Wheatfield had seven hours a day, while those in Arbour Hill had the highest amount, spending eight hours outside their cells everyday.
The Irish Penal Reform Trust said that last year, an average of 317 people were held on either 22-hour or 23-hour lock-up.
The trust also reported that in 2021, there was an average of 32 people on 24-hour lock up (ranging between 15 people and 74 people).
