Delays for motorists travelling in and out of Perth after tree collapses on A85

Motorists travelling in and out of Perth are facing delays after a tree collapsed onto a busy road entering the city.

The tree fell onto the roadway on the A85 Dundee Road, near the Old Tollhouse at the entry to Perth when approaching from Dundee, in the early hours of the morning.

PKC workers have arrived on site for the tree to be assessed and removed “when safe to do so”.

A council spokesperson said the tree was unlikely to be removed and the road reopened before Monday morning peak traffic.

Drivers have been therefore urged to avoid the area.

Traffic coming off the A90 either from Dundee before the Friarton Bridge or off the Friarton Bridge itself will be redirected around the roundabout and back on to the A90 during the removal operation.

Drivers looking to leave Perth towards Friarton Bridge are being asked to find alternative routes, which may include joining the A90 via Edinburgh Road or Broxden Roundabout.

At around 10.15am a council spokesperson said that work had begun to remove the tree, but that cutting and removing it and associated debris would “likely to take most of today”.

A traffic light flow system has been put in place to allow traffic in both directions, however queues are expected on both sides of the carriageway until the tree is full removed.

A PKC spokesperson asked motorists to "please be patient and avoid [the road] if possible".
