Motorist builds life-size snowman in middle of busy road after getting trapped

Snow and ice has caused travel chaos for commuters around the UK, as the dramatic cold snap has closed schools and sparked severe weather alerts. Parts of the UK have woken up to several inches of snow this morning after flurries began over much of the country on Sunday afternoon and continued into the night.

Many roads have been closed and some motorists on the M25 were trapped in their cars for hours - but some drivers have refused to let the weather dampen their spirits. As traffic ground to a halt on the A406 in Central London, one motorist decided to pass the time by building a snowman in the middle of the road - and people on social media were left in stitches.

What do you think about the snowy weather? Let us know in the comments...

Twitter user @nishattazz shared a picture of the snowman, writing: "Someone made a snowman in the middle of the A406 #snow #uksnow."

The post was quickly retweeted and most people were amused by the optimism of the stranded driver.

One wrote: "May as well, as no one was going anywhere."

Then another said: "Ahahaha - did the snowman survive?"

A third user added: "I drove right past this, was hilarious!"

"I think it's someone frozen overnight," a fourth user joked.

The Met Office have issued yellow weather warnings for areas of the country impacted by snowfall, including the South East, West Midlands and the North East.

Meanwhile, motorists are being warned of travel disruption and road closures, with commuters in some areas urged not to drive at all unless absolutely necessary.

Police in Warwickshire issued a warning to drivers this morning urging them to wait until roads had been cleared after several inches of snow landed overnight.

Dozens of schools across the country have announced closures, with lessons to be delivered online instead.

The Met Office has also issued a weather warning for ice in eastern and south-east England until 11am on Tuesday.

There is also a warning for wintry showers in many areas of northern Scotland and parts of north-east England for 48 hours from midday on Tuesday.
