Emergency services were called to reports of a serious collision involving a motorbike. It's understood the rider suffered serious injuries in the incident in Wigan.
Police and paramedics were called to Spring Road in Orrell - just past the Heinz factory - at around 2.50pm on Wednesday afternoon. No other vehicles were reportedly involved.
Exact details have not been revealed, but Greater Manchester Police have said initial enquiries were continuing. The scene remains closed by police for accident investigation work and according to reports, the air ambulance attended the scene together with firefighters.
No age or sex for the motorcyclist has been revealed as yet by police. Traffic reports said Spring Road remained closed in both directions this evening due to the incident between Prescott Lane at the Heinz factory and Latham Lane.
In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called shortly before 2.50pm to a report of a serious collision involving a motorbike on Spring Road, Orrell. Emergency services are at the scene and road closures are in place as our response – and initial enquiries – continue.

No further information has been released and there's been no further update on the rider's condition in hospital.
