Motherwell hero Louis Moult says he will always try to repay the faith shown in him by the club, and fancies himself to score against Celtic tomorrow.
Moult, 30, says the way the club dealt with him and his family is something he will never forget, as he embarks on a second spell at Fir Park.
The former Preston striker, who is on loan from Burton Albion, scored his first goal since returning in the 3-2 defeat at Hearts on Sunday, and feels he can add to that when the champions visit in the Premiership.
He said: “This club gets me as a person and as a player, and that goes hand in hand with the performances.
“It feels like home for me. I said it the first day I arrived here. The way this club were with me, but also my wife and my kids... I’m never going to forget it and I’ll do everything I can to repay that.
“It’s no secret that the previous few years have been difficult for me, in terms of fitness and belief, and there are times when I have almost stopped believing.
“Because of injuries and selection, I’ve not played where I thought I maybe should have.
“But I feel like I’ve got the belief from this football club and the management where I can achieve, and I start to believe in myself.
“That helps with the fans we have here, how supportive they are of me – they spur me on and give me that extra 10 per cent.
“When I left, I always wanted to come back and play for this club.
“As everyone knows, it’s got a big place in my heart.
“I just think sometimes a player clicks with a football club. That was the case with me the first time around when I came – the fans, everyone around, the place, the community, we just clicked.
“I loved the place, I loved playing for the club, I think you see that in my passion in the way I play.
“I feel this club gets the best out of me.
“I always fancy myself scoring goals when I’m on a pitch. Some might say it’s too confident, but as a striker you have to be confident and live on the edge.
“[Scoring against Celtic] is something I’ve done previously so I have to look back on that and say I’ve done it before why can’t I do it again.”
Moult climbed off the bench to inspire a Motherwell fight-back as they were 2-0 down to 10-man Hearts on Sunday, netting from the spot, with Blair Spittal adding a second – only for the Jambos to net a late penalty winner through Lawrence Shankland.
However, Moult reckons that performance shows he’s back to his best.
He said: “It’s frustrating for everyone [that I wasn’t at my best right away], probably me being the most frustrated person.
“I was probably sat at home shouting, slamming doors, all sorts, because I’m my biggest critic. I want to be out there, I want to be 100 per cent.
“It’s not always going to go like that, not just with me but us as athletes, that’s the way it is.
“But one thing’s for sure, me and us as a football club are doing everything we can to get the best Louis Moult out there to help everyone and obviously for myself as well.
“From my performance on Sunday you could see that I’m moving a lot more freely with the help that I got down south when I was missing for a week or two, which was needed, so it’s about building on that.”
