Motherwell star Kevin van Veen wins Premiership player of the month to end club's wait for prize

Motherwell striker Kevin van Veen has been named the Premiership player of the month for April - making him the first Steelmen star for four years to take the prize.

The Dutchman netted six goals in four outings for the Steelmen and bagged a big goal against Celtic to earn the Fir Park side a 1-1 draw on April 29.

Van Venn - who also won the club's player of the month award earlier in the week - has netted 24 goals this term and becomes the first Motherwell player since Jake Hastie in February 2019 to claim the prize.

And he told the Motherwell website: “I am honoured to win this award.

“This is an individual award but more importantly, the month of April was a really successful one for the team and the club.

“We wanted to reward the supporters for their support this season, even when things weren’t going great, and I’m glad that we have picked up more points.

“Even though it’s my name on the trophy, I couldn’t have won it without my teammates and for that, I want to thank them.”

Van Veen is targeting 30 goals for the season and if he breaks 27 he will become the Steelmen's record scorer in a single season, breaking Michael Higdon's haul.

He will have an opportunity to add to his tally tomorrow when Motherwell welcome Kilmarnock.
