Motherwell must change results in Dundee but there's no 'golden ticket', says boss

Graham Alexander admits Motherwell must overcome a four-game Tayside hoodoo this season if they are to take points from Dundee United at Tannadice.

Alexander admits results against both sides in the City of Discovery this season have been poor, with 2-1 and 2-0 defeats against United on both previous visits this term.

But despite Dundee being bottom of the Premiership, they have also beat Motherwell twice at Dens Park, 1-0 in the League Cup second round back in August, and a 3-0 battering in November.

Alexander says that has to change, and it's going to take some hard work to do so.

He said: "It doesn't particularly annoy me [that they haven 't won at Tannadice this season] but I'm obviously disappointed that we haven't done that.

"I think our record in Dundee is pretty poor, to be honest, if you include games against Dundee as well.

"It's not a great place for us to go, so far, so we're going to have to change something, aren't we?

"I don't walk about like a bear with a sore head because of what happened three months ago or something like that, but it is something we are aware of.

"The challenge is there for us to do something we haven't done this season, so every game presents its own challenge, and different scenarios.

"That's one we're going to have to overcome, because we want to go and get something from the game, so we're going to have to change what we've done this season, results-wise."

Alexander says his side should go into the game with confidence. Even though they've won just once in the league since Boxing Day, they are in the top six, fighting for a European slot, because of what they achieved in the first half of the campaign.

He said: "The players are in a good place, I think we were a bit despondent after the game last week [3-1 defeat at home to Rangers] because we want to win games, regardless of the opposition.

"But the players know that what they've done over the course of this season is good, and we are where we are because we deserve to be.

"Nobody has given us a golden ticket, we've had to earn it, and anything we achieve between now and the end of the season, and over the next four games, we're going to have to earn it.

"The scenario is the same as it has been all season, for us, to be honest."
