Motherwell assistant boss Brian Kerr says new signing Louis Moult is looking in good shape ahead of a potential first-team debut on Saturday at Ross County.
The Fir Park hero was a deadline day signing for the Steelmen last week when he returned to the club on loan from Burton Albion.
Moult, whose first spell came between 2015-2018, wasn't ready to make his second bow in claret and amber for last week's clash with Dundee United but played 25 minutes for the reserves in a 4-0 win over Queen's Park in midweek.
And Kerr says he could be ready to make an impact against the Staggies at Dingwall - if the clash goes ahead following reports this weekend's fixture card could be cancelled as a mark of respect if Queen Elizabeth II passes away, amid concerns for her health.
He told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "Louis got a little run out in a reserve match during the week, just to give him a little bit of extra game time, which he's not had for the last week or so.
"He's trained every day, he is looking good and it is important that there is competition for places.
"Kev [van Veen] has been great recently, scoring goals and flying high, so it's important that we have someone there to help Kev, but also give him competition.
"I think Louis doesn't need any introduction in terms of what he can bring to the team and the club.
"It's important that we've got these types of players - matchwinners - and that's why we brought Louis to the club.
"He will aid what we are already doing and when things aren't going so well, he gives us options and different ways of how we can play the game."
The Steelmen had to sweat on Moult's move being confirmed last Friday, with an 11th hour swoop on the Thursday evening not ratified until later the next day.
Kerr added: "Things took a wee bit longer than we would have liked, but I think we were pretty confident we would get it done.
"It was just trying to get bits and pieces tidied up from it.
"We knew the impact Louis would give us just by coming back to the club but, more importantly, he'll be able to do his thing on the pitch and start chipping in with the goals that we need.
"That's the real reason he is here, to score goals and hopefully we start to see that soon."
