Keith Lasley says his exit from Motherwell has been emotional - but the new challenge at St Mirren is one that fills him with excitement.
The 42-year-old has been assistant manager in ML1 since bringing his 18-year playing career - 16 of which were in claret and amber - to an end in 2017.
He now heads to Paisley for a new career adventure, taking over from Buddies icon Tony Fitzpatrick as chief operating officer.
Lasley was given an emotional send-off from Motherwell last week during the club's final home Premiership match against Hearts, a 2-1 win that clinched a top five position this season and Europa Conference League football.
He told the Steelmen's club media: "It's a bit of a change for me in terms of being in the dugout and football day-to-day. But I am looking forward to the transition.
"Sometimes opportunities arise in football that take you in a slightly different direction than you thought you were going in.
"All I have tried to do is from the start of my career is be prepared to take all the opportunities I can. I have got myself as educated as I can.
"It was always going to be a big decision for me to leave this football club. My two kids still aren't speaking to me! That's not to say I won't be back in an official or unofficial capacity, but it's the right decision at this time."
Excitement now awaits him at Saints and he can't wait to get working at the club managed by former 'Well boss Stephen Robinson.
The former battler told SMTV: "It's a privilege to follow in Tony Fitzpatrick's footsteps so I will certainly be looking to go and do him proud.
"All I can say to the fans is that I will be working 24/7 to bring the best to St Mirren. Every club has their own story and it's up to me to immerse myself in this football club."
