Motherwell hero Louis Moult says 'I'm home' after returning in loan deal

Motherwell hero Louis Moult says he's 'home' now that he has returned to the Fir Park club on a loan deal.

The striker is likely to play a role in Sunday's home Premiership clash with Hearts, having secured a deadline-day defying deal from Burton Albion.

Moult was a hero in these parts before leaving for Preston North End four years ago, and fans have regularly speculated a return during transfer windows since.

That was evidenced when he walked out ahead of the 0-0 draw against Dundee United a fortnight ago and nearly took the roof off Fir Park.

Speaking to Motherwell's website, Moult said: "My adrenaline has been sky-high since joining due to the deadline stuff, it has been such a high.

"When I came up, I remember walking into the ground with them filming. I just said 'I'm home'.

"It was off-the-cuff, it wasn't planned. That's just how it felt.

"To be honest, me and [chief executive] Alan Burrows were in contact. We are anyway, but since leaving Preston we've probably been that bit closer in how much we talk to each other.

Moult has been back in claret and amber in a reserve game against Queen's Park on September 6 (SNS Group)

"It was one of those things. I always wanted to come back to Motherwell at some point in my career, my understanding was Motherwell wanted me back, too.

"I wanted it to happen, they wanted it to happen, and it was pleasing we managed to get the job done.

"There were times when I thought it wasn't going to happen. I was a bit down in the dumps at times, but all parties came together to make it happen, which I was delighted about."

The 30-year-old added: "It wasn't until deadline day where I knew it was happening. It was probably about an hour, maybe two hours to go before the deadline, when it actually started to move.

"There are pictures of me in my living room signing on the dotted line with my wife about 20 minutes before the deadline. That's literally how quickly it happened. I'm sure Alan Burrows said it all went through with about three minutes to spare.

Moult says he received several messages of support from Motherwell fans in the four years since he left for Preston North End (SNS Group)

"Walking in and seeing how good a nick the ground is, the pitch looks unbelievable and they've obviously spent money around the place.

"It looks brilliant, the changing rooms look great, too."

Moult now hopes to repay the faith shown in him from supporters over the years.

He said: "Ever since I left Motherwell the support I've received has been incredible. I've had so many messages on social media and also had people coming down to Preston and Burton to watch and support me. I've never forgotten that.

"Hopefully this weekend I can get on the pitch and get the three points. I just can't wait to get back out there for Motherwell."
