Motherwell boss Graham Alexander has hinted that the club are on the verge of another contract extension, having secured Bevis Mugabi and Scott Fox on long-term deals.
Alexander says he's looking to next season as he surveys his squad, and wants to keep his best stars at the club.
Mugabi last week signed a contract extension keeping him at Fir Park until 2024, and goalkeeper Fox followed last night, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2023.
The Steelmen gaffer says now that the January transfer window is out of the way, he's sitting down with various players to talk about their futures.
He said: "We've been speaking to a couple of the other players, these have been going on for a little while, so there will be another one announced maybe today or tomorrow - I'll leave that to our media team.
"We have a clear idea of how we want to finish this season but also to progress next season.
"We feel we have players who we can improve, who are already doing very good jobs for us, and we're looking to the character and the personality of the players, and if we can improve as a club and as a team.
"There are other players in that squad that we feel we can do that with.
"There are still ongoing negotiations with a couple, but hopefully we can keep the ones we want, because they're good players."
Alexander says now that he has identified what he's looking for, there's no reason to hold back with contract offers.
He said: "I think once we identify and realise that we want to keep these players, and that we can keep these players, then as quickly as you can do it is the best scenario.
"I've spoken before about January being a difficult month for a club like Motherwell, so I thought these sort of negotiations were stretched out during that time by their agents and so forth, but now that window is shut, we can get down to business.
"If we feel that players can help us win, but there's development and growth in them, then that's the perfect sort of player that we try to keep.
"We have ambitions on the pitch, but we also have the reality of what we have to do off the pitch, as in looking after the finances of the club.
"We feel that we have players that can be an investment for our club."
Alexander says Mugabi and Fox have both proved themselves to be what he's looking for in his squad.
"Both those guys are great characters," he said. "They train like they play every day.
"Foxy has been supporting an excellent goalkeeper [in Liam Kelly] already, but from his training performances and in bounce games - and his experience - we know we have a goalkeeper that can step in to be the number one at any moment, so that's good for us.
"Obviously Bevis has been valuable to us and in my 12 months he's played in the majority of the games when he has been fit.
"He has played in different positions, and he's great to have, so we're delighted to have him on board."
