Former President Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee were joined Friday by three mothers of those killed by undocumented immigrants or fentanyl during a press call that came shortly before Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to the US-Mexico border in Arizona.
During the call, the mothers shared their heartbreaking stories of loss. Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin who was raped and killed by a citizen of El Salvador, emphasized the need for increased safety measures, stating that the border crisis poses a threat to American citizens. Morin expressed disappointment that Vice President Harris had not reached out to her following her daughter's tragic death.
Another mother, Anne Fundner, recounted the devastating loss of her 15-year-old son to a fentanyl overdose. Alexis Nungaray, the mother of a 12-year-old girl who was found dead in a creek, highlighted the involvement of two undocumented men from Venezuela in her daughter's death.
The press call coincided with Vice President Harris’ visit to the border, her first since taking office. The ongoing debate on immigration and border security between former President Trump and Vice President Harris has been a focal point of their respective campaigns.
