A customer has criticised a popular pub for its "lack of legal knowledge" about serving her 19-year-old daughter alcohol. The woman said staff took a glass of wine off the teenager while she was eating a family meal because she didn't have any ID, but youngsters are actually allowed by law to drink alcohol with a meal if the booze was purchased by an adult.
The mum highlighted the incident on a Tripadvisor review for The Lyttelton Arms in Hagley near Kidderminster under the headline "Rude staff. Lack of legal knowledge more training needed".
According to Birmingham Live, the manager of the bar replied to the post, pointing out that the law on serving youngsters to which the unhappy customer was referring was at a manager's discretion, and that it was company policy not to serve alcohol to anyone under 18.
