The mother of Jonathan Lewis, a Las Vegas student who tragically lost his life late last year, has voiced her distress over the recent plea deal agreed upon by the four teens involved in her son's death. The teens, Damien Hernandez, Dontral Beaver, Gianni Robinson, and Treavion Randolph, initially faced murder charges but ultimately pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
Melissa Ready, Jonathan's mother, expressed feeling blindsided by the plea deal, as she had been under the impression that the teens would plead guilty to murder and face a minimum of two years in the adult system. Ready emphasized her dissatisfaction with the plea deal, stating that she believed it was essential for the crime to be reflected on the teens' records.
However, the lawyer representing one of the teens, Gianni Robinson, revealed that the plea deal would result in the case being transferred to juvenile court, potentially sealing the criminal records of the four individuals involved. While a formal plea has not yet been entered in juvenile court, sentencing is expected to take place at a later date.
The tragic incident involving Jonathan Lewis occurred on November 1, 2023, when he was found severely beaten near Rancho High School in North Las Vegas. Despite efforts to save him, Jonathan succumbed to his injuries a few days later in a nearby hospital.
As the legal proceedings continue, Melissa Ready remains adamant about seeking justice for her son's murder and ensuring that the individuals responsible are held accountable for their actions.
