Most voters want a general election sooner than next Autumn - and a quarter want one this year.
It follows reports that Rishi Sunak is considering holding off on calling the election until next October - months after the spring date many expected.
But an exclusive poll by TechneUK for the Sunday Mirror found only 28% of voters thought there should be an election in Autumn 2024 or later.
Some 52% want one sooner than that, with 25% saying he should call it “as soon as possible.”
Some 20% of those polled said they didn’t know.
Labour ’s Deputy Leader Angela Rayner said: “People are crying out for change and It’s time to give Britain its future back."
She added: “This May voters face a choice between a Tory government that has left people out of pocket and prioritised the wealthiest 1% and a Labour Party that will put working people first.
“Together we can send a message to the Tories that their days in power are numbered.”
The poll also found Keir Starmer is more trusted by voters to act in the interests of the country, rather than in the interests of his own friends and family.
Some 45% of voters agreed that the Labour leader was more trustworthy, compared to 41% who favoured Mr Sunak.
Mr Starmer was favoured even more heavily among women, with 47% saying he was the more trustworthy party leader.
And even 15% of those who voted Conservative in 2019 said Mr Starmer was the most trustworthy.
TechneUK polled 1626 adults on April 12 and 13 by telephone and online.
