Most popular UK shop for Christmas dinner revealed - and it's not Asda, Aldi, Lidl or Tesco

The UK's most popular supermarket for festive shopping has been confirmed, and while many of you may be assuming that it's a budget retailer like Aldi, Lidl, or Tesco - you would be wrong.

A new study reveals that this year's most popular supermarket when it comes to picking up your turkey and trimmings is none other than Marks and Spencer - with the often considered 'luxury shop' seeing the most Google searches for Christmas stock in 2022.

Shopping for the big day is a widely-loved and enjoyed part of the whole festive period, with many opting to ditch their bang-average run of the mill supermarket for something extra special as a bit of a treat.

And The Liverpool Echo report that while the legendary high street store is sometimes notorious for it's heightened prices when compared to cheaper rivals, it's also noted for a vast array of quality and decadent groceries, food, snacks and treats - with delicious seasonal releases consistently available to snap up.

Research by New Casinos analysed Google search data to track the most searched for supermarket in the UK for the Christmas food shop. And when the results were in M&S scooped the top spot - with an average of 25,000 searches a month.

The high-street retailer boasts 90 dedicated Christmas items ready to order - including a handful of sought-after products which are debuting on the roster in 2022. Coveted new goods include the Lobster Mac & Cheese Crostini, as well as the Hot Cheese Grazing Platter - with several items available for vegans and vegetarians alike.

The second most popular supermarket in the UK for Christmas food was Waitrose - seeing 10,000 monthly Google searches - while Sainsbury’s landed in a bronze position, with 7,300 average monthly searches respectively.

Tesco was dubbed the fourth most popular, seeing 7,100 monthly Google searches relating to its Christmas range, while Aldi ended up fifth on 4,400.

Tesco was revealed as the fourth most popular, with the supermarket gaining 7,100 monthly Google searches for its Christmas range. The interest in Tesco has stayed steady since 2017.

A spokesperson from New Casinos said: "Christmas can be an extremely exciting time, with many companies making a huge profit from this season. It is interesting to see which supermarkets are winning the race to be the most popular choice for Christmas food and that some are taking over other prominent shops.

"With the rising cost of living challenges, Christmas is undoubtedly an expensive time of year. Many supermarkets are attempting to ease the burden with a range of price points and Christmas dinner deals. Asda have stated, 'Whatever your budget, there is a Christmas for everyone', whilst Waitrose has announced a 'festive £40 for four' including all of the trimmings and desserts."
