Christmas, believe it or not, is just around the corner and soon we will be sitting down in font of our televisions and sticking on some feel good movies.

And as the festive season approaches, the age old debate of which movie is the best always arises with many people debating why their choice is the best.

However according to recent findings, it seems there's some Christmas classics that people tend to re-visit time and time again, and we're sure you can guess which takes the top spot.

So as it turns out, Christmas classics are called just that for a reason.

The new data, commissioned by CasinoTop10.net, analysed Google Search volume from UK searchers to see what are this holiday season’s most popular Christmas movies. The researchers also looked at IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes audience scores for every movie on the list.

Taking the top spot with 159,000 monthly searches is unsurprisingly Love Actually with Will Ferrell’s Elf in second place racking up a total of 125,000 searches.

Next on the list making up the top three is Home Alone with 124,000 monthly searches.

Love Actually is a classic festive movie from the UK featuring a star-studded cast including Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson, and the late Alan Rickman.

In second place is Elf which follows Buddy, raised by and among elves on the North Pole, on his search for his father, a relentless businessman who seems to have no room for his grown, childlike son.

And in third spot is Kevin McCalister’s first adventure as the film once again stands the test of time and is still by far the most popular and beloved movie from the bunch. The original has 124,000 searches, and it has an IMDB score of 7.7 and an 80 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Last Christmas, which came out in 2019, is the most recently released movie to make the top 5, as well as the top 10. Based on the discography of George Michael and Wham!, it portrays a Yuletide romance between Kate, a frustrated employee in a year-round Christmas shop in London, and Tom, who teaches Kate how to appreciate her second chance in life. Written by Bryony Kimmings and Emma Thompson, Last Christmas has 80,000 monthly searches, and an audience score of 81 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

A spokesperson for CasinoTop10 commented on the findings adding: “Year after year, we see several Christmas movies released on various platforms. Many of the newer releases are retellings of well-known and beloved stories, like the recent musical comedy Spirited, which stars Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds, and Octavia Spencer.

"This tells A Christmas Carol story from the perspective of the Ghost of Christmas Present; or the previously mentioned Home Sweet Home Alone, which recycled the story already told so many times, without adding anything valuable to it. Considering this, it is unlikely that the spots at the top of the Christmas movie list reserved for timeless classics like Love Actually or Elf will be taken from them any time soon.”
