Most complained about moments of Love Island 2022

The Love Island final is closing in with less than 12 hours to go before the winners are crowned. But as one couple prepares to split or steal the whopping £50k prize pot, audiences have been sharing their views with Ofcom.

According to the regulator, the 2021 edition of ITV2's flagship dating show attracted some 36,000 complaints. And this year has been no different.

As of the 25th of July, they have received thousands of complaints from viewers about the dating show. So here's the rundown of five of the most complained about moments.

1. Mysoginistic behaviour from male contestants - 2,481 complaints

By far the most complained about the moment so far, the episode on July 17th really didn't sit well with viewers. As the fallout from movie night continued, the boys confronted their partners about what they'd seen happen in Casa Amour.

Viewers were said to have complained about misogynistic behaviour from the boys. The subsequent episode of Aftersun, which followed straight after the main episode, also received 427 complaints for the same reason.

2. Snog, Marry, Pie - 1,509 complaints

As the fallout from Casa Amour continued, a fallout between some of the boys and girls caused a slight rift in the villa and led to a tremendous outpouring from the public. Complaints were centred around misogynistic behaviour and bullying from the boys.

3. Mysoginistic behaviour - 413 complaints

The beginning of movie night got underway in this episode, with the boys landing the opening questions and picking the videos. Viewers were said to complain about the treatment of the girls from the boys in the villa with particular mention of how Ekin-Su was treated after the video of her and George in bed was shown.

4. Bullying - 351 complaints

More bullying complaints featured around two games played by the islanders in an episode on the 18th. 'Suck and Blow' was a spicy take on truth or dare and 'Snog, Marry Pie' began.

Snog Marry Pie has become one of the most divisive challenges of this year's Love Island, with audiences claiming that it opened up bullying opportunities. There was a particular focus on Luca's decision to pie Tasha, who claimed afterwards that the fishmonger "wasn't a true friend".

5. Gemma & Davide and Ekin-Su & George - 167 complaints

When Gemma and Davide were first coupled up, in what feels like a lifetime ago, back on June 7th, audiences expressed their concern over the age gap. At 19, Gemma is the youngest resident of the villa and after coupling up with bombshell Davide, the two shared a kiss, which made viewers 'uncomfortable' due to their eight-year age gap.

Also with 167 complaints was the decision to reveal the footage of George and Ekin-Su in bed Casa Amour. Shown at movie night, the clip showed Ekin-Su telling George that they were just friends after it appeared some 'touching' went on.

With Ofcom yet to release data about the final week of episodes, the total number of complaints is expected to rise from its current total. Meanwhile, according to Metro, the managing director of ITV Studios, Kevin Lygo, is reported to have said that Love Island will be subject to an editorial review.

He confirmed Love Island would be reviewed, replying: "We continually assess a programme as it is going on because it is one of these odd every night live sort of shows. But when the series comes to an end, we will always sit down and review what we think about it, what the reaction has been, how well it has done.

"And we have to say this year, remember, it is the best one we have had in many years and I think everyone is thoroughly enjoying it. To get five million people to watch a show every night at 9 o'clock is extraordinary in the modern era, so something is being done right."

He added: "But you are right, we must always look to improve and work on what we have done. But we are very happy with the way it has gone so far."
