Australians could boost the economy by spending just $10 each, all the while supporting businesses that sell quality products.
An extra $4.8 billion could be injected into Australia’s economy every year and up to 9500 new jobs could be created if households spent an additional $10 a week on ‘Australian Made’ products, according to Roy Morgan research.
This week is Australian Made Week, and its aim is to not only celebrate local makers and growers, but encourage consumers to get behind them.
Australian Made chief executive Ben Lazzaro said even small changes consumers make during their weekly shop can result in a huge difference for local businesses.
“When you buy Australian Made, you have a direct economic impact on the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Australians throughout the supply chain,” he said.
Buying Australian Made products is important to Australian consumers.
About 74 per cent of Australians are concerned about the amount of products that are sold in Australia that are produced overseas, while 89 per cent believe more manufacturing should be done locally.
Buying Australian Made products ensures manufacturing is done at home, while boosting Australian businesses.

Research shows that four in five Australians say that buying Australian-made products is important to them and 67 per cent of consumers “often” or “always” seek out locally made products.
Australian Made ambassador Ash Barty said Australians are spoilt for choice when it comes to buying locally made and grown goods, which have some of the highest standards.
“I’m proud to be part of the campaign as it supports the livelihood of local manufacturing, local businesses, local families and local communities,” Barty said.
“There are so many benefits to buying Australian Made, including creating and supporting local jobs and boosting the economies of the cities, towns and regions where the goods are produced.”
Roy Morgan CEO Michele Levine said the majority of Australians who buy Australian Made associate such purchases with a sense of pride and feel positive about it.
Look for the label
The easiest way to ensure you are buying Australian Made goods is by looking at the label and see if it has the green and gold kangaroo.
The logo is a registered trademark that can only be used on products that have been approved by the Australian Made Campaign Ltd.
The Australian Made or Australian Grown logos can be found on anything from health and beauty products, home appliances to food and beverages.
There are a few different logos to look out for.
‘Australian Made’ refers to the production process, meaning the contents of the product may not contain Australian ingredients or components.
For a product to be allowed to carry the ‘Australian Made’ trademark, it must have undergone its last substantial transformation in Australia.
When all the significant ingredients or components of a product are grown in Australia and all or most of the processing has also happened in Australia, a product can be labelled as ‘Australian Grown’.
Usually, ‘Australian Grown’ is associated with fruit and vegetables, meat and cut flowers, Australian Made said.
Similarly, ‘Product of Australia’ is used when all significant ingredients or components of a product are from Australia, and all or most of the processing has taken place locally.
