Moschino Creative Director Davide Renne dies aged 46

The creative director of Italian fashion Moschino has died aged 46.

Davide Renne, who had been announced as Jeremy Scott’s successor to lead the luxury brand in October, had only formally taken on the role on November 1. The cause of death was a “sudden illness,” according to reports which have shaken the fashion industry.

"There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time. Davide joined us only a few days ago, when a sudden illness took him from us too soon. We still can't believe what happened,” said Massimo Ferretti, Chairman of Aeffe SpA which owns the company, in a statement.

“With Davide, we were working on an ambitious project, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for the future. Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends,” he continued.

The designer, who was born in Follonica, Tuscany, was best known for his role in the womenswear department of Gucci, where he worked for over two decades and rose to the position of head designer of womenswear. His debut Moschino collection was set for autumn/winter ’24, which would have been shown in February. His appointment also marked a return to an Italian designer heading up the house, following more than a decade of American designer Jeremy Scott’s leadership.
