Mortified mum trapped in public toilet unable to get out until husband paid 30p

A mortified mum had to call her husband to pay her way out of a public toilet after getting stuck inside.

Alarm bells were ringing when Lucy Wishart, 46, paid 30p to use the public loo and realised she had become trapped while on holiday with her family in Llandudno, Wales.

The mum-of-one, from Preston, Lancashire, was then forced to call her husband Ian, 52, to come to her rescue and insert another 30p to open the door.

"I'd paid my 30p to get in and when I tried to get out the door wasn't opening," she told Grimsby Live.

"I called my husband who was in the playground with my son after reading the notice on the inside of the toilet.

"It said in order to be released you may have to put another 30p in the machine, but clearly that would be impossible if I was on my own.

"How can you put 30p in the machine if you're stuck inside? What would I have done if I was on my own or had no mobile?

"I'd have had to wait until the next person came along which could have been hours for all I know.

"It really annoyed me so I took to Facebook to rant and now it's all over the internet."

A poster inside the toilet door read "do not panic" with advice for customers in the event they get locked inside.

Others who are hopefully outside the toilet are told to "reassure the individual that everything is okay" and press the unlock button.

But the poster also warns that the trapped toilet user may have to wait 15 minutes while those outside insert another 30p for the door to release.

A Conwy County Borough Council spokesperson said: "We have closed the toilet temporarily while the manufacturer inspects and fixes the lock and we make other repairs.

"There are alternative public toilets inside the Great Orme Visitors’ Centre."
