Brits have shared their disgust after spotting Easter egg displays in Morrisons on Boxing Day.
Chocolate wrappers from Christmas selection boxes are still to be hoovered up as the country remains in a post-Turkey hangover, but that hasn't stopped the supermarket chain gearing up for the next big calendar event - three and half months away.
Aisles were found to be laden with Mini Eggs, Lindt and Cadbury bunnies and Galaxy caramel eggs on Monday, prompting a shocked reaction from shoppers in the midst of the Christmas season.
Shelves were seen stuffed with Easter treats at the retailer's Canterbury branch, including Malteser bunnies, Cadbury eggs and even a large Creme Egg display - with a 2 for £1 deal on offer.
The early showing was dubbed "commercialism at its best", and was by no means limited to Morrisons as Tesco and Co-op shoppers also shared snaps of shelves offering full-blown Easter eggs.
One shopper tweeted they'd made an emergency dash to one supermarket for stuffing, only to be met by rows of golden bunnies.
"There you go people, Morrisons selling Easter eggs on boxing day [sic]," another customer posted.
One Co-op shopper pointed out that their Easter selection was stacked directly opposite the Christmas confectionary, now selling at reduced prices.
They wrote: "Tis the season for Easter chocolate (even though Christmas chocolate is reduced opposite)."
And an appalled Twitter user wrote in: "No! Make it stop! My eyes!".
The original poster responded that he "eased the pain" by buying the Christmas chocolate, which was being sold cheaper.
One Twitte r user likened the un-seasonal showing to a "war crime", whilst another wrote their local supermarket was "still on Valentine's Day".
"What has the world come to?" one shopper bemoaned. "Went into a local supermarket today (December 26th, Boxing Day) to see the F***ing Easter Egg’s out already…[sic]".
Another quipped that their son worked for an unnamed supermarket and was already having to stack shelves with Easter eggs.
One customer wrote: "I joked with some shelf stackers about Easter eggs in Morrisons the other day and they laughed and said that the first five boxes were already in the warehouse. True story."
Morrisons' selection already includes the usual Easter treats, such as bags of Mini Eggs, a 2 for 1 deal on Creme Eggs and Lindt's signature gold bunnies, although mercifully did not include any boxed eggs.
Some shoppers however posted snaps from Tesco and the Co-op revealing boxes ready to gift to children.
On one display in Tesco, huge boxes of Thornton's and Lindt eggs were ready to be snatched up.
It follows complaints each year of supermarkets preparing "too early", with many reporting seeing Christmas stock beginning to creep its way onto the shelves as early as September.
