Morrisons shopper who found £3,800 in car park praised after handing in the cash

A caring Morrisons customer has been praised after they found a whopping £3,800 in the car park - and handed the money over to police.

Stunned Annie found the cash stuffed inside an envelope as she was heading into the Swadlincote store.

The shopper, from South Derbyshire, was walking through the car park when she attempted to go over the balloon-like object with her trolley to burst it.

But when it "popped", Annie noticed that is wasn't a balloon at all - and instead a envelope full of money, Birmingham Live reports.

After finding the small fortune, she headed home before reporting the discovery to officers from Derbyshire constabulary.

The money was found at Morrisons South Derbyshuire store in Swadlincote. (Google)

Annie said: “When I saw the envelope on the floor, I thought it was a balloon and I pushed my shopping trolley over it to pop it. The envelope popped and loads of money fell out.

"I took the money home and could not rest worrying about the person who had lost it. I only did the right thing."

The cash has now made its way back to its rightful owner, who had come forward to claim it. They also gave Annie some of the money as a thank you.

Officers from the Derbyshire force were so touched by Annie’s honesty that they paid her a visit on Monday in a marked police car with blue lights flashing and sirens sounding.

Officers from the Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team gave her a letter of thanks from Derbyshire Constabulary. And also gave her flowers and chocolates.

Sergeant Nizzer, and officer Bob from the Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Words cannot describe Annie. She is a truly amazing lady who deserves the thanks and praise of the whole community. Well done.”
