Morrisons and Heinz offering lifeline free meals in Manchester with this discreet ‘code’

There are so many discreet initiatives out there which aim to help those in their hour of need, from Ask for Angela in bars, to a ‘package for Sandy’ for emergency period products. And this half term, Morrisons have teamed up with Heinz for a free meal initiative which will be a lifeline to many amid the cost of living crisis.

Available in Morrisons cafes nationwide from Wednesday, October 26 - including four in Manchester - customers will be able to ‘ask for Henry’ and be given a free Heinz Beanz meal.

Inspired by founder Henry J. Heinz, the partnership will see more than 160,000 hot meals made available to the public with no questions asked.

The free meals are open to anyone, but will be particularly beneficial for families struggling to help ends meet during half term – but also to anyone else who needs it. Shoppers can enter any of the 397 Morrisons cafés and will be offered a hearty jacket potato topped with Heinz Beanz and salad for free.

Customers will be able to ‘ask for Henry’ at the following Morrisons stores in Manchester:

  • Morrisons Openshaw, Ashton Old Road

  • Morrisons Failsworth, Poplar Street

  • Morrisons Whitefield, Stanley Road

  • Morrisons Eccles, Irwell Place

Sian Whittle, Category Director of Morrisons Cafés, said: “We know that our customers are under real financial pressure at the moment and are therefore pleased to be partnering with Heinz on its ‘ask for Henry’ initiative to offer customers a free jacket potato topped with Beanz.”

The initiative was inspired by the work of Henry J. Heinz, founder of Heinz and known philanthropist. From a young age, Henry would make food with his mother in their family kitchen, using ingredients picked from their garden, to share out to his local community.

Jojo De Noronha, President Northern Europe at Heinz added: “We believe everyone deserves the goodness, comfort and warmth a can of Heinz Beanz can bring, and whilst we know it doesn’t fix the problem, we hope our ‘ask for Henry’ initiative can be of some help at this difficult time for many, particularly over half term.”

Ask for Henry will be available from October 26 until November 6, limited to one meal per customer per day.
