Drama at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar continued on Tuesday with Morocco beating Spain in a penalty kick shootout to advance the quarterfinals for the first time in their history.
After 120 minutes of scoreless action, the two teams went to the shootout and Spain, which had put in a ton of practice on PKs heading into this World Cup, failed on all three of its attempts.
Morocco scored three times and advanced when Achraf Hakimi scored on a beauty of a kick right down the middle (known as a Panenka) and then he celebrated by doing Jaylen Waddle’s TD celebration.
This was all pretty great:

What cajones it takes to panenka a penalty with #FIFAWorldCup on the line.
And what an immigrant's tale.
Hakimi was born in Madrid to Moroccan parents. His mother cleaned houses; his father was a street vendor. He played for Real Madrid and #ESP wanted him but he chose #MOR https://t.co/FTWH9emcqs
