Morgan Gibbs-White sent 'demanding' message ahead of Wolves return

Nottingham Forest fans have backed Morgan Gibbs-White to prove his worth after Steve Cooper instructed the player to 'not think' about his price-tag.

Gibbs-White, 22, was signed by Forest this summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers for around £27m (excluding add-ons) during a mass overhaul of the squad following their return to the Premier League.

The England under-21 international is now set to make his return to Molineux this afternoon (3pm kick-off), fresh from an impressive display against Aston Villa on Monday where he recorded his second assist of the 2022/23 season in the 1-1 draw.

And the Forest head coach has backed the playmaker to prove his worth in the top flight, despite Forest's early struggles. They currently sit 19th in the Premier League table, but Cooper said of Gibbs-White's Wolves return: “I hope he is not thinking about it too much. I'm not.

"I just know we secured a good player, and a young player who can not just deliver on a game day now but still has potential. We are just focused on how we get both of those things right - get a good impact from him now, while knowing he is getting better for the mid to longer-term as well.

“He really has the ability to have a great impact on Premier League games. It is an easy thing to say but a hard thing to do. He’s a young age, playing Premier League football for the first time regularly. We are really happy with him.

“He has had good contributions so far. He has already got good assists off set-pieces and he is really threatening to have a really big impact on the game. He plays on the edge of creativity.

“We are very happy with him on a day-to-day basis. We feel that he still has so much that he can show. We are happy with him, but it is only going to get better with him as well. We are looking forward to committing to that programme and him improving.”

“We are pleased with Morgan. It has been a bit of a demanding time for him in a number of ways, moving from a club he spent a lot of time at and then coming to a new club and playing regularly in the Premier League for the first time, in terms of starting games. He is a young player as well. It’s a lot to take in.

Here is what Forest fans have had to say about the youngster ahead of the Wolves clash...

coopermanfan: Correct me if I am wrong, but Morgan took a corner in one game (and we scored), Morgan took a free kick (in another game) and we scored. If Morgan's assists keep us in the premier league then it is money well spent, isn't it? Steve's a great coach and manager of players, let him scout the players he wants. My message to Morgan is ignore the trolls. You are a fantastic player and Steve Cooper is a fantastic coach.

Simon Stuart: Still best attacking player we have by a street.

Jay Jay James Bar: He needs to step up today.

Scott Grocock: Back the boys and the manager, even if we only have one season in the Premier League. It is all we’ve ever wanted so enjoy it for what it is

Ethan Lamb: Just thought I’d remind you, Morgan Gibbs-White is very good at football.

@Tisab0282: Morgan Gibbs-white is quality.

@MisterWenger: If I did something at work as stupid as spending over 40 mil on Morgan Gibbs-White, I don't know if I'd have been able to style it out for like almost two months before anyone cottoned on.

@ashbashforest: Morgan Gibbs White to score the winner at Wolves?

@ForestPat1951: One of our best players so far this season.
