Morgan accepts there is no easy answer to missile-throwing problem

Chris Morgan believes there is no easy answer when it comes to stamping out missile-throwing at Irish League games.

Tuesday's Big Two derby was stopped twice after various objects were thrown onto the pitch from some Blues supporters behind one of the goals.

Glens goalkeeper Aaron McCarey and captain Marcus Kane appeared to be struck by items in what David Healy labelled "unacceptable" behaviour by those involved.

Former Glentoran and Linfield striker Morgan says the problem of missile-throwing stretches back to his own playing days, and he is unsure how clubs or the authorities can eradicate the problem.

Morgan told BBC Sportsound: "Listen, I have been asked about this a couple of times this week, and I have backed away from it.

"It is not something I have a great opinion of, in terms of the people doing it.

"We all know it is wrong. It has happened in the past and you'd like to think we have moved on.

"I don't know how a club like Linfield sort that problem out, I really don't. I wish someone would come up with something to get rid of these types of people who come to games.

"I don't know how you do it. It is not the kind of situation you want to be talking about.

"And it certainly took the shine off Glentoran's 3-0 win."

Blues boss Healy described Tuesday as a "poor, poor night for Linfield", while the club has launched its own investigation into the matter.

Speaking immediately after the game, Healy said: "It is unacceptable. I am not going to stand here and condone any idiot who wants to throw stones or bottles or whatever else. It is unacceptable.

"We have been on the end of it at different times at different grounds, I don't need to name them. It is never nice.

"In sport there are winners and losers, and sometimes a draw. Over the years I think we have been humble winners, but we have also been humble losers.

"And tonight on the playing side I think our players accepted defeat too easily, and the scenes you don't want to see, I won't stand and condone them.

"It is a poor, poor night for the football club."
