Douglas Park clung on to his place in the Rangers boardroom but the Ibrox chairman admits the Light Blues may have to cut their ties with Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent. The key duo’s deals expire this summer but Park hinted at the club’s AGM this week that talks had stalled over their "unattainable" contract demands.
But rather than lose the pair for free, Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, says: “After what was said at the Rangers AGM it is clear Kent and Morelos will not be extending their contracts. Rangers must now sell both players in January to the highest bidders. In all honesty neither Kent nor Morelos have been any good this season so it’s time to cut our losses and £50,000-per-week wages on a pair who have been a shadow of themselves. Nowadays players will always chase money. They're no better than mercenaries with no sense of loyalty.”
Alan Milligan added: “There is only one man to blame for the situation that Rangers find themselves in with Morelos and Kent and that is Ross Wilson. Both players should have been sold last summer that if they didn’t sign extensions then they wouldn’t be played. He is a total disaster and has cost Rangers millions as a result of his incompetence.”
Celtic fan Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, couldn’t resist taking a pop as he said: “I hear Rangers sporting director saying that Rangers had turned down offers for under performing Morelos and Kent but surely it’s being unfair on Rangers supporters not knowing what League One club down south are tabling the offers?”
Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “Good to see the Rangers AGM being all about, well, Rangers and not petty jibes about the open goal of what’s going on across the city. Celtic should take note as they’ve not had an AGM in the last decade that doesn’t mention Rangers, which is strange considering the majority of their support claim Rangers don’t exist.”
Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, called to say: “Yesterday's Hotline caller Thomas Marshall was well wide of the mark with his criticism of Ally McCoist. Super Ally is one of the best commentators out there and has great knowledge of all the teams. Perhaps Thomas is just another Rangers hater and would prefer to hear John Hartson's expert advice.”
John Bruce said: “The return of Peter Lawwell to Parkhead may be seen as a great move by many Celtic fans, but it would have been even better news for Rangers fans if he had brought Neil Lennon with him as they both oversaw Celtic's collapse and failed 10-in-a-row dream. Peter could give Rangers fans the ideal Christmas gift by giving Ange a helping hand this season too.”
Meanwhile, England are gearing up for their World Cup quarter-final showdown with France on Saturday night but Gordon McIlwraith, Kilmarnock, is feeling a little bleu: “I'll have a croissant, a pain au chocolat and a baguette on Saturday. Guess who I'm supporting?”
But Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, emailed in: “One has to chuckle at these bitter Scots who constantly jeer England and claim that England's opposition were nobodies. Let me inform them that Iran, USA, Wales and most certainly Senegal would all see off Scotland. What is it now lads? 25 years of pain and counting!”
