Morecambe sweat on Cole Stockton fitness as illness hits Shrimps camp ahead of Bolton Wanderers

Morecambe have been left sweating on the fitness of several players including striker Cole Stockton ahead of the visit to Bolton Wanderers.

Top scorer Stockton has found the back of the net 21 times so far this campaign, but was taken off during the weekend's loss to Plymouth Argyle due to not feeling very well.

Several players in the Shrimps camp have been struck down due to illness, including Toumani Diagouraga, Aaron Wildig and Greg Leigh too and did not feature over the weekend.

Dylan Connolly also had to come off due to cramp at Home Park and the Shrimps were down to their bare bones before the encounter.

Stockton and the rest of his absent team-mates are poised to be assessed ahead of the trip to the University of Bolton Stadium tomorrow evening, Morecambe boss Derek Adams said.

Speaking after the 2-0 loss to Plymouth, he said: "Cole wasn't feeling well. He'd spoken to the doctor before the game and the physio. He just wasn't feeling well and I really had to take him off.

"He (Connolly) just took cramp. He put in a really good shift today. He kept Jordan Houghton quiet all afternoon when he is one of their better players.

"We lost five players yesterday through illness, it was going through the camp, we had to change one just before kick-off as well.

“We were down to the bare minimum going into the game, but that didn’t stop us having a really good performance.

“We missed Toumani Diagouraga, we missed Aaron Wildig today through illness, Greg Leigh through illness as well, we’ll have to assess them before Tuesday and hopefully they’re back fit.”
