David de Gea has officially confirmed that his time as a Manchester United player has come to an end.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper's contract at United expired at the end of June. It was still not out of the question that De Gea could rejoin the club with talks over a new deal expected once his wedding celebrations had finished.
United had wanted to give the Spaniard a deal on reduced wages. That being said, MEN Sport revealed recently that some figures at the club were keen to move on from De Gea.

United are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer and Inter Milan's Andre Onana is high on the list. Had De Gea stayed at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag had already revealed he would not have been guaranteed to be his first-choice shot-stopper.
And De Gea has now officially confirmed that his time at United has come to an end, posting a farewell message on social media.
He wrote: "I just wanted to send this farewell message to all Manchester United supporters. I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club.
"I took incredible pride every time I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestows upon a few lucky footballers.
"It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I came here. I didn’t think from leaving Madrid as a young boy we would achieve what we did together.
"Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings. Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me. We’ve seen it all."
United fans have taken to Twitter to express their thanks as De Gea prepares for the next chapter of his career.
