More than 80 cyclists that had planned a takeover of the San Francisco Bay Bridge were stopped by police officers on Saturday (28 March).
California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that they received reports of a large group of bicyclists traveling through the city “recklessly” towards the bridge as they weaved through traffic and almost hit pedestrians.
They then alerted San Francisco Police, who joined CHP and moved in to form blockades at both ends of the Harrison Street off-ramp, which leads up to the bridge.
All individuals were detained without incident, with 85 citations issued.
“This reckless behavior will not be tolerated, especially on freeways where higher speeds increase the danger,” CHP said.
