For the first time in more than a month, less than 2 percent of the country is currently considered an active case, Newsroom's weekly dashboard shows

Fewer than 100,000 New Zealanders are currently considered an active case, the first time the figure has been below six digits since late February. While the 99,185 people known to be infected with Covid-19 is still an astronomical number, it shows the virus is slowly in retreat. It comes as 13,475 new cases were reported on Friday and 764 were in hospital.

ICUs were tending to 31 people with Covid-19, the Ministry of Health said, and another 17 deaths were reported.
