Thousands of students and scouts from Kenya's coastal region took part in an ambitious attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of people planting mangrove trees simultaneously. The event, held at the Jomvu Kuu Mangrove Site in Mombasa County to mark World Mangrove Day, brought together young volunteers, conservation groups and government agencies in a large-scale effort to restore one of the country's most important coastal ecosystems. While organisers hope the attempt will earn international recognition, the primary objective was to promote mangrove conservation and inspire young people to take an active role in protecting the environment. The initiative highlights the growing role of community-led conservation in tackling climate change, protecting biodiversity and safeguarding coastal communities that depend on healthy mangrove forests.
