More than $27 million awarded to help victims of crime in Kentucky

More than $27 million has been awarded to 114 organizations and projects dedicated to helping the victims of violent crimes in Kentucky. The grant funding comes from the federal Victims or Crime Act.

Paula Garner is the president and CEO of Maryhurst, a group that helps abused children. She says the funding has helped her organization’s long-time mission.

“Maryhurst will be celebrating 180 years of service this September and, while the VOCA funds have not supported us all those years, the VOCA funds have supported critical needs for Maryhurst over recent years.”

Garner said this funding will help many groups of people.

“But this funding not only aids survivors in their path towards healing, but it also underscores the importance of collectively striving to end violence in our communities.”

This year’s VOCA funding includes $17 million from the Office for Victims of Crime and an additional $10 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds, bringing the total awarded amount to $27 million. The VOCA funding prioritizes services to victims of child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
