MORE than 100 Scottish cultural organisations have joined a boycott of Israel.
Activist group Art Workers for Palestine Scotland announced their support of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) on Monday, encouraging other organisations to sign up.
The list of organisations who have signed up to the boycott includes The Alasdair Gray Archive, Cross Borders Arts, Dundee Artists Database, the Glasgow International Festival Team, Glasgow School of Art Students’ Association, Scottish Artists Union and The Stand Comedy Club.
The PACBI boycott includes boycotting Israeli cultural institutions (including performing art companies, music groups, film organisations, writers’ unions and festivals), events, activities and products.
In a post on Instagram, Art Workers for Palestine Scotland wrote: “As of the start of November, 127 Scottish cultural organisations and groups have joined the cultural boycott of Israel.
“As you can see from this list, grassroots Scottish culture has taken a stand, while many larger organisations have refused to.
“We urge all Scottish cultural organisations who haven’t yet endorsed PACBI to reflect the views and principles of their workers, artists, audiences (and frequently their programming) and join the boycott today.
“We are increasingly seeing the effects of the cultural boycott and the BDS movement at large. We can all have an effect, and every silence facilitates and normalises the genocide.”
The group added: “No more business as usual in the arts. No culture without Palestinian culture.”
