More than 100 health and national security figures signed an open letter published July 30 arguing that eliminating U.S. funding for the Pan American Health Organization would remove a layer of advance warning about disease threats before they reach American communities and farms.
The letter, organized by a new bipartisan coalition called Friends of PAHO, follows the administration's fiscal year 2027 budget request to Congress, which zeroes out funding for the organization.
