Building a four-bedroom home usually takes far longer than a single weekend, but more than 1,000 volunteers in San Antonio did it in just 50 hours. The unusual project, organised by Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio & Guadalupe Valley, brought volunteers, interns, family and friends together to build a home for single mother Yadira Salas and her three children. Working in two-hour shifts, they raised walls, carried timber, installed windows and worked on the garden as the clock counted down. Salas also joined the construction effort, putting in her own “sweat equity” as the house took shape around her.
