More than 1,000 athletes compete in World Indoor Tug-of-War Championships in Taiwan

Taiwan is hosting the World Indoor Tug-of-War Championships for the first time, bringing more than 1,000 athletes to Taipei Arena for the four-day competition.

Teams from different countries are competing in several weight categories, including junior and adult divisions.

Spectators gathered to watch the intense matches as teams pulled in tightly contested rounds.

Organisers said hosting the event in Taiwan allowed local athletes to compete on home ground, while international participants described the Taiwanese team as one of the strongest in the competition.

Some teams and referees were unable to attend due to flight disruptions linked to the war in the Middle East.
