More school systems in central and eastern Kentucky closing due to illness

Two more school systems in central and eastern Kentucky are shutting down Friday due to illness. They join four others that shut down earlier in the week.

Madison and Clark County schools will be shutting down due to a spike in illnesses among students and staff. There has been a recent outbreak of flu-type-A, strep, R-S-V and other respiratory illnesses throughout the region.

Earlier this week, Powell, Wayne, Wolfe, and Jackson Independent School systems announced they would be closing for similar reasons.

Powell and Wayne County schools’ attendance was down to 74% when the decision was made.

Clark, Madison, and Powell County schools will return to the classroom on Wednesday. Jackson Independent Schools and Wayne County will return on Monday.
