It’s no secret the Cincinnati Bengals would like to get the long-term contract extension for Joe Burrow done early now that he’s eligible for one this offseason.
A new segment from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport only reinforces the idea:
“My understanding is the Cincinnati Bengals are targeting this offseason for a big time, big money extension for Joe Burrow. He’s eligible after three years. Obviously gonna give him the fifth-year option but will attempt to work out a deal from there.”
After declaring rollover cap space the Bengals project to have one of the league’s biggest chunks of cap to spend this offseason. The organization has also generated funds in other creative ways over the last year, selling naming rights to the stadium, practice facility and multiple ticket gates, among other things.
Getting Burrow’s extension done early would permit flexibility when looking ahead to guys like Ja’Marr Chase who will need extensions done in future years. The Bengals also have a hefty free-agent class this offseason featuring Jessie Bates, Germaine Pratt, Vonn Bell, Eli Apple and Hayden Hurst.
Also as expected, Burrow has made it clear he wants to spend his entire career with the Bengals — something Chase just said, too.
From @NFLGameDay: #Bengals QB Joe Burrow has been one of the best bargains in the NFL, like all stars on rookie contracts. The organization plans to change that this offseason. pic.twitter.com/4qPIcbOBRb
