Former Celtic star Chris Sutton has predicted Everton will hold Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in their upcoming Premier League meeting. Sutton feels “sorry” for new Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim, as there has been a lot of hype surrounding his arrival, and believes the Portuguese will need time to deliver results.
Manchester United Secured First Win Under Amorim in the UEFA Europa League
Succeeding Erik ten Hag, Amorim made his managerial debut at Manchester United on November 24, in the away clash at Ipswich Town. Marcus Rashford fired the visitors into the lead in the second minute, but Ipswich Town refused to roll over. Omari Hutchinson equalized for the hosts just before half time and United could not find a way to regain their lead.
On Thursday night (November 29), Manchester United faced Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford in the UEFA Europa League. Alejandro Garnacho struck inside the first minute but goals from Hakon Evjen and Philip Zinckernagel put United under pressure. Luckily, Rasmus Hojlund came to Man Utd’s rescue, scoring in the 45th and 50th minute to secure a 3-2 victory.
Chris Sutton Predicts Another Premier League Draw for Ruben Amorim
Manchester United will look to carry their winning form over to the Premier League when they face Everton on Sunday (December 1). Sutton, however, does not think they will be successful.
In his BBC column, he wrote:
“There has been so much hype, or even over-hype, about Manchester United, and I feel a bit sorry for their new manager Ruben Amorim because he needs time, and two or three transfer windows, to put things right. There was a lot of excitement over the way they started his first game in charge, against Ipswich, but blimey you have got a problem if the Tractor Boys are out-playing you, which is what happened in the end.
“I think the reality is hitting home about Amorim using his favored 3-4-3 formation with their current squad – especially with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in midfield.”
He added:
“As for Everton, well a fair few of their fans still seem to be on Sean Dyche’s back, and they could not find a way past Brentford’s 10 men last week. This time, they will be the team looking to hold out and I believe they can do it because this United team is going to take a while to click.
“Once the initial buzz of Amorim’s first home game dies down, things could go flat at Old Trafford, the way it has done quite a lot recently. I hope it happens for them under Amorim because he seems like a decent guy, but he is in the Manchester United madhouse now and he is about to find out what it is like to be under the microscope every single week.”
