More lackluster free agency grades for Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals have been active in free agency this offseason, but it hasn’t been anything particularly notable. They have re-signed several players and signed a few outside free agents but there has been no real exciting addition.

As such, it has led to less-than-exciting grades in free agency.

SI.com’s Matt Verderame gives them a very “meh” C-minus.

The Cardinals brought in some role pieces, with a few coming from Philadelphia to join former Eagles defensive coordinator and new Arizona coach Jonathan Gannon. The problem? The Cardinals have a bad roster, a brutal schedule and a very inexperienced coaching staff that is likely without Kyler Murray for the first half of the 2023 season. Other than that, things are great.

They added a couple of nice players in linebacker Kyzir White and receiver Zach Pascal, both former Eagles, but neither would be a signing that moves the needle of excitement.

Meanwhile, they have lost three of their best defenders in the offseason. DL J.J. Watt retired and both DL Zach Allen and CB Byron Murphy signed with other teams.

It’s hard to be excited about anything the Cardinals have done. They are being deliberate and trying to put together a tough, competitive team but also know they will likely be limited in success.

They aren’t failing the offseason but they aren’t getting good grades.

They are doing what they need to to set themselves up for the future.

Maybe that deserves a higher grade in the bigger picture, but middling marks are perfectly fine.
