More Irish viewers are starting to tune into Conversations With Friends after slow start

An average of 161,000 people tuned in to watch the next instalment of Conversations With Friends – but 9,000 people switched off watching the second episode.

RTE aired two episodes back-to-back on Wednesday night.

After a slow start last week with just 156,000 tuning into its debut episode and 30,000 tuning out to watch the second episode, ratings are slowly climbing.

According to RTE, an average 161,000 watched Wednesday night’s episode, while an average 152,000 stayed on to watch the next show.

This was compared to last week when an average 156,000 people watched the first episode, while an average 126,000 stayed on to watch the second episode.

The show had faced stiff competition at the time as it aired at the same time as the final episode of Derry Girls as well as the Europa League final.

But an insider of the show said the show is gradually building an audience.

An average 18,000 watched the show on RTE One Plus One, while the second episode was watched by an average 24,000 on the catch-up channel, while 104,000 caught the show on the RTE Player.

But it is a stark contrast from viewing figures for Sally Rooney’s Normal People back in 2020.

An average 371,000 watched the first episode when it first aired as Ireland remained in lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In December 2020 it was revealed Normal People became the BBC’s most streamed series of the year.

The series launched on BBC iPlayer in April of this year, racking up 62.7million views by the end of November.
